M4 Junction 8-9
Where is Junction 8-9?
Junction 8-9 is the Maidenhead exit, between Junction 7 at Slough (3.1 miles east) and Junction 10 (7.5 miles west). It's a quirky one: a single junction serving two short motorway spurs. The A308(M) into Maidenhead is effectively Junction 8, and the A404(M) north towards Marlow and High Wycombe is effectively Junction 9, which is why the two numbers are joined.
Where to stop
Heston services are the closest, about 15 miles east, but we'd avoid them: Reading services, between Junctions 11 and 12, is the better option. For the quickest stop here, take the A308(M), turn left at the first roundabout, and there's an Esso garage with an Asda Express attached.
Good to know
Maidenhead is where the first incarnation of the M4 ended. When the motorway was extended west, the old Maidenhead spur became the A404(M), and Junctions 8 and 9 were combined into one.
