Which junction for Chessington World of Adventures?
Chessington sits on the A243 between the M25 and Kingston, and Junction 9 is the exit you want. Take the A243 north from the roundabout and the park is signed on the right after about three miles. Junction 10 will also get you there but routes you through Esher and adds both distance and traffic lights for no gain.
The A243 is a single carriageway for most of the run and it is the only sensible road in, so it carries every car arriving at the same time the park opens. It is a short approach that can take a lot longer than three miles suggests on a summer weekend.
Practical notes
- Parking Paid on-site parking, cheaper booked ahead online. Blue Badge parking sits closer to the entrance and is worth reserving in advance rather than turning up and asking. The overflow field is grass and gets churned up after heavy rain.
- Opening Seasonal, broadly mid-February half term to early November, with Howl'oween dates through October. The zoo and the rides do not always run to the same calendar — some early and late season dates are zoo-only at a reduced ticket price, which is worth checking if the rides are the reason you are going.
- Worth knowing The zoo and Sea Life sections stay open after the rides start closing, so walking those last is the reliable way to avoid the exit crush on the A243. Half an hour with the gorillas beats half an hour stationary at the roundabout.
